If you are planning on sending me threats, please, check your spelling first. At least put in the effort, okay?

Why don't you take some screenshots, import whole videos by downloading them with https://en.savefrom.net/ and import using video2commons, etc? Don't forget to tag your uploads with {{Licensereview}}! If you need help, just ask me! (or the folks at the helpdesk or village pump)

So here [1] is a work with an anonymous/unidentified author that was published in 1932 (although created a year or two prior). The work would be PD in NZ after 50 years so 1982, which means that it'd be PD in the US as the URAA would not have renewed copyright.

Thanks. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:48, 23 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Traumnovelle, what is the question? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 09:42, 23 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
If my understanding is correct, that the work is PD in the US Traumnovelle (talk) 09:44, 23 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Traumnovelle, your assessment appears to be correct. Copyright is incredibly complicated and volunteers here aren't attorneys (or not acting in that role), so guarantees can never be given. For example, if the work was also published in the US and had its copyright registered and renewed, it could theoretically still be protected. That's unlikely when the National Library of New Zealand doesn't even know who the author is, so it's fine to upload. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 11:52, 23 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

why the blurred art?

[edit]

Why blur the art in this photo? File:Visita de VicePresidente de Cuba a El Salvador.jpg - Wikimedia Commons ~2025-34340-77 (talk) 20:30, 18 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

~2025-34340-77, because the photo is a derivative work of the portraits (which have their own copyright). - Alexis Jazz ping plz 13:37, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
ah, good point. so that could mean the photo itself gets a copyright strike without blurring the copyrighted works within. thanks for explaining. ~2025-34340-77 (talk) 02:30, 20 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

File:Cadillac Eldorado in the Netherlands in 2024.jpg

[edit]

Often license plates can be transferred from older cars to newer cars. But I can see that you're right in this case about it being an 8th Generation Eldorado. --DanTD (talk) 10:01, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

DanTD, according to the note for the "Datum eerste toelating" (date of first admission) on the w:RDW (organization) license plate check website: "Dit is de datum die aangeeft wanneer het voertuig voor het eerst is geregistreerd (waar ook ter wereld)." (This is the date that indicates when the vehicle was first registered (anywhere in the world).) The language indicates they look at the vehicle, not the license plate.
The vehicle was imported as the "Datum eerste tenaamstelling in Nederland" (date first registered to a person in The Netherlands) and "Datum inschrijving voertuig in Nederland" (date of registration of vehicle in the Netherlands) are both 20 August 1996. So it didn't have a Dutch license plate before 1996.
But I'm no expert either, I just noticed @Somegreenguy had categorized it as 8th gen and you moved it to 9th gen. As the difference was hard to tell, I looked up the license plate. Thanks for verifying it's categorized correctly now!
Looks like I didn't upload the photo I took of the back. Here it is, perhaps this also makes identification easier. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 10:55, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Weird category

[edit]

Do you have any idea what was going on here? I don't understand the reason for an "undelete" category here. - Jmabel ! talk 23:28, 23 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Jmabel, in 2040 the copyright for the music in the old revision expires. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 00:16, 24 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
So it should presumably be Category:Commons:Files with deleted versions to be restored in 2040, no? - Jmabel ! talk 01:23, 24 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Jmabel, I was probably unaware of that category in 2019. It's now there. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 01:33, 24 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
FWIW, I probably should have worked that out. I got there via the "undelete" category (on a "huh, what's this doing here?" basis), then failed to notice there was a deleted version, and because I was working right then in a spot where I couldn't have sound, I didn't notice that the video lacked sound. - Jmabel ! talk 01:44, 24 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Protests in Minneapolis under one hour after the killing of Alex Pretti.webm

[edit]

Could you try and figure out what happened? Clearly something must have broken down in the communication between the author and VRT Trade (talk) 11:09, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Trade, I'm not a VRT agent, I know as much as you do. Ymblanter isn't a VRT agent either, but they possibly asked one before closing the DR? (just guessing) It seems likely VRT was never contacted, or VRT hasn't created a ticket yet. If a VRT ticket existed {{Permission received}} would have been applied which would postpone deletion by 30 days. Perhaps @Alexandraaaacs1989 knows more. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 11:34, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Trade, User talk:Ymblanter#Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Luigi Mangione explains why the DR was closed today and why Ymblanter was the closer. If it had been me, I would have possibly refused to close the DR on principle. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 11:51, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Why wouldn't you have closed it? Surely you must have an opinion whether or not the deletion is warranted given your high level of activity in the DRTrade (talk) 12:07, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Trade, I don't understand, what are you saying? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 15:08, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
why would you be against closing the DR Trade (talk) 17:00, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Trade, oh, now I see what you're saying. Ymblanter felt like you were browbeating him into closing the DR. I'm not against closing the DR. If someone tries to browbeat me into doing something, I just might refuse to do it because I don't take orders. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 17:30, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
The only reason I told him the conclusion of the DR was because he complained that the DR was too complicated to follow. So I took that as an invitation to provide a summary of what was going on to alleviate his complaint. I like to think the summary was unbiased but I guess he took it differently Trade (talk) 18:05, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Trade, they said they would maybe look on Feb 1 and that if they did the conclusion may still be that it's too complicated. On Feb 5 you commented "You said you would take a look on Feb 1st" which isn't what they said. So I understand Ymblanter's annoyance. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 18:14, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey guys. Sorry yes there was a breakdown in communication, friend is on vacation and I don't want to bug her to get her to nag her sister to check her email. If you tentatively take it down will it be easy to restore? Alexandraaaacs1989 (talk) 19:01, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alexandraaaacs1989, if she uses Commons:Wikimedia VRT release generator, enters the filename ("Protests in Minneapolis under one hour after the killing of Alex Pretti.webm") and follows the instructions to mail the output they'll take care of it. Note that the generator itself can't mail, she has to use her own mail account, e.g. gmail, outlook, icloud, etc. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 19:28, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you

NoIndex Request for Derivative Crop

[edit]

Hello @Alexis Jazz, thank you for your response on a commons photo upload that I requested be deleted.

Your suggestion, adding NOINDEX to the image, is elegant and effective.

I saw that you also took the time to look at the search results and to re-crop the derivative headshot. That was very thoughtful, thank you.

As per your directions, I emailed permissions-commons. The VRT agent said for you to do it. The ticket # is 2026021310007032.

How would you like me to proceed? Are you able to take over the ticket, or shall I send you an email using the commons email forwarder? If something else is preferred, let me know that.

With gratitude, CJMiller71 (talk) 16:16, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
